A Game Changer for Matt

Matt is an avid football fan, however his love for the game and opportunities to attend live matches took a backseat due to the added cost of paying for a ticket for his supporter. But with the help of his new support team at Optalis, Matt’s dream of returning to the stands became a reality.

Matt shared, “I like the crowd atmosphere, which is better than TV. Reading are not often on TV. I like having support because crowds make me anxious.”

Recognising how much this meant to Matt, Jon, a member of Matt's support team contacted Reading Football Club to arrange for a carer’s pass, which would make attending matches more accessible and affordable for Matt. With just a quick email from Matt’s social worker he was able to apply for a carer's pass.

Matt has already attended two games with the support of his staff team. To his delight, his team won both matches, making the experience even more thrilling.
Matt said, “The game was awesome and we saw 3 good goals, I even managed to get a kebab after.”

Jon Swindle, Deputy Manager Community Living Services, who has accompanied Matt remarked, “We are always looking for ways we can help the people we support to enjoy the things that matter to them. It was clear to us how important being able to watch a football game is to Matt, and we’re delighted to support him in reconnecting with what he loves."
