A New Home, New Connections, and a Dream Holiday

For over 40 years, David lived on his family farm, however after his parents passed away, he began to become increasingly isolated from the world. Living in his family home, his only regular social interactions were with his support team.

When Sarah, a support worker from Optalis, began working with David six years ago she noticed that David would do better living somewhere more connected to others. The upkeep of his home was becoming too difficult to manage. Sarah worked with David and his social worker to help him find somewhere new to live.

David has now settled into his new place, he shared "It's a lovely flat, with a nice bedroom and kitchen."

David has often talked about his long-held dream to go on a holiday—a luxury he had never experienced due to the demands of farming life.

This year, Sarah began showing David photos of various destinations, helping him to decide about taking a short trip. After careful consideration, David decided to take a leap and agreed to a week-long holiday in the Lake District with a member of his support team.

David said "I was pleased with where I went. It was out in the countryside. I fed the horses, I’ve always liked animals."
