Focused Friends create memory garden
26 November 2024
Focused Friends is a group of people with learning disabilities who meet at the Wokingham Community Lives day service. They talk about local issues, discuss how they can play a part in their community and look at how the people we support in Wokingham services can have their say about things that matter to them.
Sadly, some of the members of the group have lost loved ones in recent months. This got the group talking about grief and how they can support each other. They had the idea to create a memory garden, so that they could have a special place for reflection and healing.
The group took time to look at garden design, visited local garden centres and chose the furniture and features they wanted included. They also organised a cake bake event to cover the costs of all the items needed for the garden. Liz, a member of the group explained:
"It is to help me remember my dad. We got the benches and fountain."
This tranquil outdoor space, located in a peaceful area of the service, offers a quiet retreat for anyone who needs a moment to pause, reflect, and remember.
