Optalis celebrates National Learning Disability Week by inviting people to practice an act of kindness
Learning Disability Week takes place between 20 and 26 June supported by National Mencap. To mark the occasion, Optalis is Iaunching a guide to how people can join in.
The guide is the brainchild of Optalis Customer Experience Champion Jodie Reichelt who says, “This year’s theme is about friendships and relationships which can be about making new friends but also taking time to appreciate the people who are important in our lives. So Optalis are inviting customers and staff to practice an act of kindness - a gesture of goodwill towards someone or something. Put simply, doing something nice for someone.”
The guide sets out in a few easy steps what people need to do and how they can take part simply by doing something nice for someone. This could be a friend, a neighbour, a family member or a colleague.
Some ideas are: Writing a note or card saying some kind words; giving a small gift; making someone a drink or inviting them for dinner; offering to help with chores, getting in touch with someone you haven’t spoken to for a while; baking a cake to share with others.
Jodie continues, “We are going to ask colleagues and customers to get involved and then feature examples of their acts of kindness in a special online newsletter.” You can see the guide here – which is designed for people with learning disabilities.
