Our Visual Impairment Team offer free advice this month
05 September 2012
As part of National Eye Health Week, a member of the Optalis Visual Impairment Team (which provides the rehabilitation service for residents of Wokingham, Reading, Bracknell, Windsor and Maidenhead diagnosed with a serious eye condition), will be at the following venues from 10am - 4pm:
-
Monday 17 September: Asda Mall, Lower Earley District Centre, Lower Earley, Reading
-
Tuesday 18 September: Nicholsons Shopping Centre, Maidenhead
-
Wednesday 19 September: Princess Square Shopping Centre, Bracknell
-
Thursday 20 September: Broad Street Mall Shopping Centre, Reading
The work of the VI Team involves the provision of advice, information and, where relevant, certain pieces of equipment that assist in dealing with problems resulting from various eye conditions, e.g. macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract etc. In particular, the qualified specialist worker, on visiting a person in their own home, can advise on practical issues and teach safe methods of managing ordinary day-to-day tasks, such as preparing food and drink and getting out and about safely. At the same time, they are very aware and understand the emotional impact of slowly decreasing, or sudden loss of, vision on all involved.
The team is based in Wokingham and can be contacted on (0118) 974 6896 during normal office hours, but during this month anyone experiencing the challenges of deteriorating vision and/or those acting on their behalf, e.g. carers, family etc. can come along to any of the above venues and talk to the member of the team - where they can be assured of an informed and helpful response.
