Out and About turns two!
24 June 2014
The Out and About service is Optalis’ evening and weekend service primarily aimed at providing support to people with learning disabilities and/or a physical disability. The service has now been running for two years, attracting a loyal following of customers, who access the service on a regular basis.
In the last year, over 55 customers have accessed Out and About, and approximately 45 of these continue to be regular users of the service.
On Friday June 27, Optalis are holding a celebratory evening to mark the two year birthday at their head office in Molly Millars Lane. Anyone who’s interested in finding out more about the service are welcome to drop in and find out more. Attendees will include the service manager, current customers, and staff from the service.
There’ll be photos on display to show the great variety in trips and activities over the past year, and attendees will be able to see the results of a recent survey carried out with customers.
Karyn Fowle, Service Manager, said: "It’s amazing to see a great idea turn into reality. Watching the service grow, and go from strength to strength, shows that this is a much-needed social outlet for our client group. Not only does Out and About provide a vital community network for our customers, who get to go on some fantastic days out - it has also helped some of our clients develop their self-esteem and confidence.
“Out and About is also very fortunate to have some excellent staff who love being with the clients, and supporting them to have fun in a safe environment."
