David

The importance of caring friendship

David and Kate met at a local Social Club. After a few occasions it was clear they had much conversation, laughter, and soon struck up a lovely friendship.

David explains “When Kate first spoke to me, she’s very friendly. I like her a lot.”

Claire Davison, supports David at Winston Court a Residential Care Home in Maidenhead. Claire noticed their growing friendship and asked them both if they would like to meet again. David and Kate happily agreed and Claire helped them make arrangements. David visited Kate on her birthday with a card he had carefully chosen. They both spent quality time celebrating Kate’s Birthday.

David said “We shared a Chinese meal it was quite tasty and I helped her cut her cake”.

David not only met his special friend but was also able to enjoy time with Kate’s lovely housemates.

Claire adds “Helping David to build on his friendship and keep in contact with Kate has definitely boosted his general mood, confidence, and self-esteem. It’s amazing what a friendship can do for somebody. It has encouraged him to not only leave the house for fresh air and exercise, but to socialise again, after living and feeling alone in the years before moving to Winston Court.

David said "I have a photo of me and Kate in my room. I like her rosy face, she makes me smile."

Claire continues; "Everybody needs somebody to talk to or a positive focus in life. I am proud to have been a part of David and Kate’s growing journey of friendship and I am excited to continue to help it flourish.”
